Roald Amundsen, traveler, polar explorer, the first conqueror of the South Pole.

"At night I woke up several times with the same feeling that I had in my childhood on the night before Christmas Eve: an excited expectation of what should happen. However, it seems to me that this night we slept as well as everyone else.

On the morning of the fifteenth, the weather was magnificent, as if purposely created to arrive at the pole. I don’t know for sure, but it seems to me that on this day we swallowed our breakfast a little faster than on previous days, and left the tent a little hastily, although I must say that we always did this with all possible speed. We took our usual places in the following order: runner, Hansen, Wisting, Bjaaland, and second runner. By noon, we reached the latitude 89 ° 53 'south reckoning and prepared to cover the remaining distance in one fell swoop. At ten o'clock in the morning a light wind rose from the southeast, the sky was covered with clouds, and we were not able to determine the noon height. But the layer of clouds was not thick, and the sun peeped from time to time. Nast was different that day. Sometimes the skis glided well, but sometimes things turned out badly.
On this day, as on the eve, everything went completely mechanically. We talked a little, but the more we used our eyes. Hansen’s neck was twice as long as it was in the past days, so he twisted it and pulled it out to see it a few millimeters further if possible!
